Gain That Dream Job!

Dream work experience placements at amazing companies such as Everton FC, Sony BMG Records, working backstage at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Red Bull Formula 1 and Rick Stein's top restaurant are up for grabs… and it could be you!
A competition has been set up to give young people aged 16-18 the opportunity to win work experience placements that could fulfil dreams they never thought possible.
The competition, 'Get Set For Life', is set up by the Learning and Skills council (LSC) who recognises that students have an interest in somewhat more creative industries such as theatre, sports and music - fields that are all extremely difficult to break into at any age. But making this happen is not as hard as one might imagine.
According to the National Statistics 19.7 per cent of 17 year olds were not in education or training in 2005. Get Set for Life aims to reach the 20 per cent of young people who the LSC predict will leave school and training centres this year in favour of pursuing work and therefore an immediate wage - a short term decision that some may later come to regret.
Whilst set up to raise awareness in young people and encourage them to not restrict themselves on the possibilities available, the work experience placement will only be granted if students achieve at least five good GCSEs or the vocational equivalent. Once achieved this could win them the opportunity to gain work experience placements in places they never thought possible!
David Shaland, Executive Chef at Rick Stein's seafood restaurant, says this is a great opportunity for a young person to gain an exclusive insight into the hospitality industry. "The winner will get hands on experience in the restaurant and a unique opportunity to see what it takes to succeed in this kind of role." The LSC has designed this competition closely with the employers taking part to ensure the students get the most out of their placement. For example, if appointed a placement at Sony BMG, the winner will be helping out in the communications department and involved in coordinating a promotional tour for one of the labels top acts!
Get Set For Life really gives young people something to aim for and will hopefully encourage them to realise their full potential, focusing on gaining good results with the knowledge that they can progress into fantastic and sometimes more creative industries. With the skills achieved from the placements combined with good grades, the possibilities will be endless; in the long term achieving jobs with better wages and higher job satisfaction!
To apply for one of these placements taking in place during May half term young people must log on to www.getsetforlife.org.uk where they can submit a short statement on which position they would most like to win and why they deserve this once in a lifetime experience. The prize includes travel and accommodation near to the work placement, so young people from all over England can apply.
