The Princess and The Pea
Once upon a stormy night while the wind and rain were howling outside, the Royals were all tucked up warm in bed. Suddenly, there came a knock at the door and a very wet, very untidy girl was brought inside.
The Princess and the Pea is a playful and comic story of a clever queen, a girl who is not as she first appears a tower of mattresses and, of course, a tiny pea. This witty and inventive adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's classic bedtime tale is played out among sheets and blankets with puppetry by Joy Haynes, an experienced creator of devised puppet-based theatre, toys and dreamlike projections.
A perfect seasonal treat for ages 2-5 the show and is directed by Haynes, co-director of Banyan Theatre who recently staged the charming Cinderella Ashputtel and The Steadfast Tin Soldier.
Princess and the Pea is being staged from Wed 21 Nov - 23 February 2007 at The Polka Theatre, 240 The Broadway, Wimbledon, London SW19 1SB. Info: 0208 545 4888 / www.polkatheatre.com
